Even though I have posted a lot of puttu recipe I have never posted a gothambu wheat puttu recipe. My other favorite recipe that I have posted with several variations are prawn masala puttu, vegetable puttu which is so delicious, these puttus are another great option for your breakfast or dinner.
Puttu is a traditional and most popular breakfast dish of Kerala prepared with rice flour and coconut. Puttu is usually served with Kadla curry or it is served with small banana and sugar. Puttu, cherupayaru curry, pappadam is another great combination. Puttu is very delicious either way. Puttu is generally cooked in a puttu kutti vessel with two sections. The lower section holds water and the upper section- cylindrical tube; hold the puttu – where the rice mixture is inserted with layers of grated coconut. Perforated lids separate the sections to allow the steam to pass between them.
Puttu is my hub’s favorite food. He is a breakfast person, and that to he prefers only traditional mallu breakfast..One such lazy morning an easy recipe like gothambu puttu is my life saver, I found this better and healthy option that the regular puttu.

Put wheat flour in a vessel and add salt.
Pour water over the wheat flour and mix it with your hand.
Warm half of the vessel of the puttu maker with water in a gas stove.
Arrange the puttu maker with a layer of grated coconut first then one scoop of wheat flour and again the grated coconut manner.
Place the puttu maker over the vessel and steam it for 3-4 minutes.
When steam comes out from the puttu maker, puttu is ready.
